Growing up, one of the special bonds that I had with my family was trips to one of the most popular national parks in Africa. This cultivated my love for nature which I now share with my family. Creating memorable moments is what travelling is about.  A visit to one of the most beautiful national parks in the world will not only fulfill your soul, it is an ideal break from the stresses of the world.

South America is famous for its rugged yet beautiful landscape. It is no surprise that the continent is host to what is regarded as the most beautiful national park in the world.  

Declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1978, the Torres del Paine National Park is regarded as the most beautiful national park in the world and attracts millions of tourists annually. Its natural beauty includes mountains, ice rivers, plains and a beech forest. The forest is home to guanacos, foxes, and pumas. Most of the park’s most famous sights are accessible through hikes and possibly a bit of rock climbing. This does not mean that the park is inaccessible to day visitors who want to see the sights by car.

If you are looking for a completely unique experience, the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia is for you.  

The Namib-Naukluft National Park is the largest game park in Africa. Make sure that you visit Sossusvlei and Deadvlei which is home to unique landscapes where there are plenty of black tree skeletons and red colored dunes. The sand dunes in the Namib Desert rank amongst the highest in the world. Many creatures survive the hyper-arid region. These include snakes, geckos, unusual insects, hyenas, gemsboks, leopards, and other African mammals not usually found on conventional safari’s.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, China

Fans of James Cameron’s epic Avatar will be excited about this national park.  

The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China’s first national park. The natural stone pillars that are found in the park inspired the floating mountains in Avatar. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park has three glass skywalks, and is also home to the longest and highest glass bridge in the world. Just make sure that you have nerves of steel when looking down.

The Glacier National Park is located in the US state of Montana and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. The Park was established in 1910 to preserve its natural landscape which includes forests, meadows, mountains, glacial valleys, and lakes. The Glacier National Park is home to healthy populations of animals that are unique to North America. These include grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, wolves and mountain lions.

The Triglav National Park, in Slovenia’s Julian Alps is one of the world’s most beautiful national parks. The park is Slovenia’s only national park and is one of the oldest national parks in Europe. The park was named after Mount Triglav which is the highest mountain in Slovenia. Travellers should not miss visiting the nearby Lake Bled. The Triglav National Park was opened in 1924 and attracts many visitors from Eastern Europe.

The opening sequence of the Lion King is one of the most iconic opening sequences in film history. It is said that the inspiration for the Lion King came while filming a documentary in Tanzania’s largest national park.  

The Serengeti National Park is most famous for its annual Great Migration which is a mass movement of 1.5 million wildebeest and 200 000 zebras across into the neighboring Maasai Mara National Park in Kenya. During the migration, your chances of watching a kill are very high when columns of animals need to cross through crocodile-infested waters on the way to the Maasi Mara (in June) or when the herd gives birth to more than 8 000 calves a day (in February).

The Waterton Lakes National Parks forms a border with the Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. In 1932, the two parks formed Waterton Glacier International Peace Park. Like many national parks around the world, wildfires are a major risk and the Waterton Lakes National Park suffered damage from a wildfire in late 2017. However, the park is now starting to welcome back visitors.

The Fiordland National Park is home to rainforests, rivers, lakes, cliffs, snow-capped mountains, and fjords (that were carved by ice).
